Manchester Crematorium welcomes funerals of all faiths and denominations. For information on non-religious funeral ceremonies, please click here.
The crematorium allows each funeral a time slot of forty minutes.
Please bear in mind that this time also should include the time taken for people to enter and exit the chapel. If you think that a service might take longer, we offer the facility to book two consecutive times (eighty minutes). Please contact the office for more details.
Most religious funerals fall into two categories:
A full religious service may be conducted at the Crematorium within the time required for each funeral. This will be taken by a minister of religion arranged by the funeral directors or the family. A service will normally include music on entry and exit, readings, hymns, tributes and prayers. Extra music and readings may be included, depending on the time available.
If a service has already taken place at a place of worship, this may be followed by a brief ‘committal’ ceremony at the Crematorium. This is normally just final prayers, the prayers of commendation and committal and a blessing or benediction. However, if tributes or extra music are desired, this is perfectly acceptable but should be arranged with the minister. It is usual for the minister who has taken the service at the place of worship to continue by taking the committal.
